Welcome to my art storefront. I hope you enjoy my work. Painting is a way to tap into my humanity on a deeper level and to respect the universal emotional impulse that unites us. A rolling landscape may evoke the same calming emotion as a vase of flowers, while my intention was to capture some deep-seated aspect of my core being in paint.
"I love all artists." One of my students told me that. I couldn't have said it better myself. Artists are my people. We find common ground in our need to express, to emote, to seek a truer version of ourselves, and to recognize some aspect of life or imagination as important enough to paint, draw, write, perform, sing about or inspire.
I am a graduate of both the College of the Holy Cross and Bard's master's degree program in decorative arts and design. I was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Thailand in 2010-2011, where I designed fabrics and studied textile traditions. My most formative year of my travels and education was in Florence, Italy in 2005-2006. I worked in the arts in New York City for eight years including a curatorial management position at the Museum of Arts and Design. At MAD, I managed a large exhibition on digital design in 2013 titled "Out of Hand: Materializing the Postdigital" featuring over 80 artists and designers, including two outdoor installations in Columbus Circle. I enjoyed my work in Visitor Services at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for several years.
Moving back to Northeastern Pennsylvania, and the city of my birth, I celebrate a renewed appreciation of the Endless Mountain landscape region. I call the hills my home, wherever I go.
Thank you for following along on my journey.
I wish you a calm heart.
xx Colleen
